Travel Marketing
I am always interested in how different states and even countries market their travel. Tourism is a big industry that generates billions of dollars for states around the US and even countries around the world. It seems like many countries have decided to promote their travel using TV commercials in order to reach the most people to tell about their destinations. Hotels and restaurants that cater to tourists just try to feed off of those coattails in many instances.
I am surprised by that way of marketing. There has been a big push in that direction in the last 10 years, even while the web has expanded. I even read in the news where they lament about the lack of travel advertising budget, but the truth is that many businesses and government travel offices are ignoring one of the biggest potential marketing avenue and that is the net. There are so many ways to publicize travel and only a few operators have gotten into the act. Let’s hope more do. Frankly $1,000,000 will get you nothing using TV, but a web marketing campaign run by a single employee using all of the tools available could generate a huge return on investment, maybe several times as much.
Just something to think about.
